The phrase “free birth control” is music to a twenty-something’s ears.  That is why it is no surprise that the millennial generation easily falls for the tactics of Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and National Organization for Women’s campaigns to lure young people into their movements that discredit personal responsibility and glorify sexual liberation without consequences.

Lets take a look at the Hobby Lobby Supreme Court case.  You know, the case that everybody thinks they know so much about.  Theses so called “Pro-women” organizations advocated for companies to be required under federal law to cover birth control under their insurance plans, even if it directly conflicts with their religious doctrines.   While I can get into the facts of the case like how the Green family actually only objected to 4 abortifacients, and the ruling only applied to religiously centered organizations, I am choosing to focus on the message these feminist organizations choose to push.

Planned Parenthood, NARAL, NOW, and any liberal hoping to win an election on so called “women’s issues” do not believe in the power of the individual. What the average person doesn’t see is that these feminist groups do not believe in women at all.  What they aim to promote is degrading, and outright insulting to females.  They assume that just because I am a woman, I cannot make my own responsible decisions about what goes on in the bedroom.  Therefore, the government finds the need to swoop in uninvited, and be my savior.  The idea of free birth control is built upon the assumption that a woman is not capable of assuming the risks or consequences that come along with sexual behavior.  These risks aren’t just STDs and unwanted pregnancies but also the cost of contraceptives. Government takeover of so called “women’s issues” assumes that a woman cannot restrain herself from having sex if she does not want a pregnancy, or that a woman cannot be responsible enough to understand the costs of birth control that comes with the territory of having it.

The insistence of free birth control reduces women to their body parts, and nothing more.  Because after all, where are these free “healthcare” initiatives for men? In the words of president Obama “let me be clear”, I am against free handouts from the government. because in the long term they promote dependency and enable irresponsibility, but if we are going to play this game, why isn’t the playing field even?  If this isn’t prejudice based on body parts, then where are the free condoms or even vasectomies for men?  Shouldn’t the government provide men the opportunity to enjoy “sexual freedom”?   It looks to me as if the pro-free birth control activists are the real sexists.  They believe that men are capable of obtaining necessary contraceptives without government programs.  Apparently, women need someone else to come in to provide what men get on their own.

I believe in women, and I believe in us enough to know we are not some savage animals who do not have the ability to make informed decisions about our sex lives.  Those who say some women are denied access to birth control obviously don’t understand the meaning of the word access.  Access is not synonymous with the word free.  I would really like this $2,000 purse, but I cannot afford it or am not willing to make that financial sacrifice.  Does this mean I am denied access to that purse?  Of course not!  I am not being discriminated against.  In the same way everyone has the right to engage in sexual behavior.  What happens in the bedroom stays in the bedroom. Those are personal choices, and like every other choice, they have consequences or pros and cons.  What no one has the right to is sex without consequences.  This is the same way no one has the right to eating fast food everyday without the consequence of gaining weight, obesity, or other negative health effects.
So next time you hear the words “free birth control” hold off on claiming victory for women and seize the opportunity to change the narrative.  Realize that what is really happening is another step towards complete government dependency.  Nothing in life is free, whether the cost is increased premiums or taxes, or your self worth, stand up and advocate for the power of the individual. For all the women reading this, you are worth so much more than being bought for the for the price of “free birth control.”
